Try this Sausage and Split Pea Soup Recipe

- 1 pound (16 oz) yellow split peas
- 2 quarts (8 cups) water
- 3/4 pound Polish sausage, cut in large chunks
- 1 cup chopped onion
- 1 cup chopped celery
- 1 cup chopped carrots
- 1 ham hock
- 2 bay leaves
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed marjoram
- 1 crushed red chili pepper or 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes, to taste
Recipe Instructions:Wash and rinse peas. Place peas in a pot with water; bring to boil for 2 minutes. Remove from heat and let sit for 1 hour.
Add ham, garlic salt, onion, marjoram and red chili pepper; bring to boil and add bay leaves. Reduce heat; simmer covered for 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
Remove ham bone and cut meat into bite-size pieces.
Put meat, celery, sausage chuncks and carrots into soup; simmer over low heat for one hour.
