Recipe Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups walnut halves
  • 1/2 cup almonds
  • 1 cup pecan halves
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon each: salt, nutmeg and allspice
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 2 teaspoons ginger
  • 2 teaspoons orange peel
  • 2 egg whites
  • 2 tablespoons water

Recipe Instructions:

Preheat oven to 200°F

Drop walnuts and almonds into boiling water and simmer 10 minutes. Drain.

In a bowl, add sugar, salt and spices; mix well, set aside.

Beat egg whites until frothy, add 2 tablespoons water and mix well. Add nuts, stir to coat well with egg white mixture; drain in colander.

In a jelly roll pan, make a shallow layer of spiced sugar, using about half of the prepared sugar mixture.

Add nuts to remaining sugar mixture and mix well. Separate nuts and arrange in single layer over sugar in pan.

Bake at 200°F for 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Remove from oven and break into small pieces.
